Gradual, logical and cautious reopening of the US Border

The following email was sent today to both Daryl Kramp MPP for Hastings – Prince Edward and Derek Sloan MP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington:

Dear Mr. Kramp and Mr. Sloan,

I am writing to you today to ask for your support in advancing the gradual and prudent reopening of the Canada  – U.S. border to American citizens who own land, typically summer homes, in Hastings County.  These individuals, many of which have owned land and paid taxes in our communities for generations, should be allowed to return for long-term occupancy of their residences in Hastings County.

Given the very high rate of vaccination for COVID-19 in the USA, there is very little likelihood that these individuals if properly immunized, should present a threat of spreading the Corona virus, any more than Canadian citizens.  Surely, there must be a way to allow these members of our community an opportunity to return after more than a year of denied access.

Please help raise these concerns and persuade your colleagues in your respective legislatures to reopen the Canada – US border as soon as possible to allow the safe return of our friends and neighbours so they can again contribute to their Canadian communities, and renew their love affair with Canada!

Respectfully,

Pat Stallaert
